HASLMS Awards

The HASLMS School Library Media Awards program is designed to recognize and honor Library Media Specialists and Administrators for outstanding contributions to school library media programs in Hillsborough County Public Schools.  All persons nominated will be recognized and the awardees will be announced during the annual HASLMS Banquet.

HASLMS AWARDS CATEGORIES & Nomination criteria

​Media Specialist of the Year (Elementary & Secondary)
  • Is a full time employee of Hillsborough County Public Schools, is in their third year of service or more as a media specialist, and is a member of HASLMS
  • Exhibits outstanding attributes of school librarianship including empowering students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information
  • Serves as an active member of leadership at their school site and/or district level and beyond
  • Nominated library media specialists will be considered for each level they serve (elementary and/or secondary)
 
Rising Star Media Specialist
  • Is a full time employee of Hillsborough County Public Schools, is in media specialist in their first or second year of service as a media specialist, and is a member of HASLMS
  • Exhibits outstanding attributes of school librarianship including empowering students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information
  • Serves as an active member of leadership at their school site and/or district level and beyond

​Administrator Advocate
  • Is a full time employee of Hillsborough County Public Schools as an elementary, middle school or high school site administrator or district administrator
  • Serves as an advocate for the school library media program in their school or at district level
  • Supports the operations of effective school library services

Nominees will notified of their nomination and will need to submit a 1-page questionnaire as a part of their HASLMS award nomination package.  Self-nominees are required to submit a testimonial.  A link will be provided for self-nominees within the self-nominee nomination form.  Candidates' names and schools will be removed from the nomination packet prior to judging by the HASLMS Awards Committee.

Media Specialist Nominee Documentation Deadline: 2/24/2023
Awards Ceremony @ HASLMS Banquet: 4/17/2023
